In our latest podcast episode, we interviewed Carley Smale, the writer of a new Hallmark Christmas movie, Christmas By Design. This new Hallmark Christmas movie airs on the Hallmark Channel on October. 27th at 8p.m. Here is some more information about this new Hallmark Christmas movie:

Logline: A fashion designer gets accepted into a Christmas challenge to create a new holiday-themed collection and not only finds the inspiration for her next line but decides to redesign her approach to what’s most important in life.

Starring Rebecca Dalton and Jonathan Keltz..

Jonathan Keltz starred in The CW’s “Reign” playing Leith, a kitchen boy turned war hero who is the loyal protector of Francis II, King of France. Keltz produced and starred in Acquainted, an independent film about the unpredictability of modern relationships.

Additionally, Keltz recurred heavily on HBO’s “Entourage,” starred in “Cardinal: Blackfly” for CTV/Hulu, and starred in the popular Hallmark movies “Fit For A Prince,” “Once Upon A Prince” and “Love at Look Lodge.” Keltz also produced the limited series “Nine Films” About Technology for FX. He most recently can be seen in the television series “Wilderness,” which premiered in September of this year on Amazon Prime Videos.

In 2010, Rebecca Dalton made her on-screen appearance in an episode of the Canadian American TV series “Unnatural History” in the role of Sally. In the same year she was also cast in the Canadian TV movie “My Babysitter's a Vampire” in the role of Della, and she’s been busy ever since, both in television and film.

In 2013, Dalton was cast as Stephanie Lyons, one of the leading roles in the Canadian TV series “Spun Out” and then in 2015, she was cast to replace Ashley Leggat in the recurring role of Tara for season two of Hallmark Channel’s series “Good Witch,” a role she reprised in subsequent seasons. In the same year she was also cast in the role of Katie Littleton in the 2016 TV movie “Total Frat Party.”

Dalton has also appeared in a number of Canadian TV movies, including “Rocky Road,” “A Perfect Christmas,” “Christmas Wedding Planner,” and in 2020, “The Santa Squad.”

The Hallmark Christmas movie, Christmas By Design, is written by screenwriter Carley Smale.

Carley Smale is a screenwriter and rom-com connoisseur who spends most of her time re-watching episodes of The Comeback and picking the raisins out of her trail mix. She received her first writing credit when she was twenty-four years old for the Lifetime made-for-tv movie entitled The Christmas Parade (2014). She has since earned several more writing credits in the MOW space with titles such as, Snowed Inn Christmas, Christmas Pen Pals and Netflix's Midnight at the Magnolia. In February 2022, Midnight at the Magnolia was nominated for best made-for-tv movie at the Canadian Screen Awards. It spent over a month trending worldwide on the Netflix top 10 list. In 2014, Carley wrote and directed an indie feature entitled, “Cold Season” with the help of her friends from film school. It was the winner of the Jury Award at the Toronto Independent Film Festival.
